Lion's Mane and Chaga: What the Research Actually Says About Focus

Functional mushrooms are having a moment, and with it has come a wave of confident claims about focus, memory and clarity. We include 500mg of Lion's Mane and 250mg of Chaga in ʼkôfē Matcha Collagen, so it's fair to ask why — and what we're prepared to say about it.
The short answer: we like them as ingredients, we dose them openly, and we're not going to tell you what they'll do to your brain.
meet the two mushrooms
Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) is a white, shaggy mushroom that has been eaten as a food and used in traditional practice for a very long time. Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) grows on birch trees in cold climates and has a dark, earthy character.
Both are used widely in supplements and in food. Neither is exotic or new.
where we draw the line
In the UK, health claims on food and supplements have to be authorised before they can be made. There are no authorised claims permitting us to tell you that Lion's Mane or Chaga improve focus, memory, cognition or mood — so we don't, on the pouch or anywhere else.
You'll see plenty of brands that do. Treat that as a signal about the brand rather than about the mushroom.
so why include them at all?
Because they earn their place as ingredients. They suit the flavour profile of a matcha blend, they're a category of food a lot of our customers already seek out, and including them at a stated dose lets people make their own decision with full information.
That's the principle across the whole formula: state the dose, skip the story.
how they sit in matcha collagen
One scoop of Matcha Collagen contains 10g of marine collagen, 2g of Japanese ceremonial matcha, 500mg of Lion's Mane, 250mg of Chaga, 1.2g of MCT powder and added vitamins.
The caffeine comes from the matcha, which is a gentler pour than our Black Coffee — that difference is covered in the comparison piece below.
